By way of Milan, we have a poppin’ new spot to eat at here in Manila. Davide Oldani, the creator of ‘Cucina Pop’ has partnered with local restaurateurs to give Filipinos an affordable Michelin-starred dining experience. Yup, you read that right… Michelin-star cuisine at friendly peso prices.
My husband and I were invited to the soft opening / tasting preview of Foo’d by Davide Oldani by one of our favorite food-dee [pun intended] couples, Eric and Kidd Dee. They make up part of Foodee Global Concepts, the multi-brand food group that’s responsible for Todd English Food Hall, Tim Ho Wan, Sunnies Café, Ilao Illao, amongst others. Jon and I sat down for a 4 course meal of Oldani’s signature dishes developed with innovative kitchen techniques; we came upon the taste and synergy of tradition and creativity. This marks my first dinner wherein I’ve had three different gelato flavors – one in an appetizer, and the others in two different desserts!
I can see the establishment being a sensation; the restaurants Michelin-star-level quality to cost ratio should keep it successful. Especially since they’re replicating the same formula as the thriving original eatery D’O in Milan. I read, in fact, that the philosophy of ‘Pop Cuisine’ aims for accessibility to a broad audience, in terms of both taste and price. We were told that 3 courses could set you back a whopping Php800, and 4 for Php1,200. Guests can come back and try different plates – with attractive [read: Instagram-able] pictures to boot! Plating and presentation doesn’t take a back seat as you’ll see below…
