OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAOLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERAI haven’t updated my blog in what is just shy of one month, shame on me. I want to move right along, push some posts out so that I can share more from the trip I am currently on. I’m at a cafe in San Jose [in Costa Rica, with Jon] on an 8-hour layover making my way to Guanacaste for Awesomeness Fest. More about that later… For now, let’s talk glam vegan food in West Hollywood shall we?

We met Café Gratitude’s fancy cousin in what looked like a page out of Architectural Digest Mexico. Her name is Gracias Madre. For those of you who think al pastor or carne asada must at all times be part of your Taco Tuesday’s, you’ll see otherwise and hopefully be open to an alternative. Meatless Mexican fare is completely possible and doable; the vegan treatment doesn’t have to mean bland, mushy or lack of flavor. Some highlights for me were our tacos and the burger, which came with avocado, chipotle aioli and pineapple coleslaw. We got talked into adding the probiotic truffle ‘cheese’, but I wouldn’t necessarily get it next time. Our tres tacos eran delicioso, el grilled zucchini + salsa verde, el grilled mushrooms + mole y el cauliflower + cilantro pesto. Since we had just arrived a few hours before in the morning from Manila, we didn’t exactly feel like ordering a drink from their popular beverage menu. GM spotlights small-batch mezcals y tequilas and the cocktails did look very enticing, I must say. We missed out this time, pero in the spirit of practising mi Español para este viaje… ¡Arriba, abajo, al centro, pa dentro!
